Ceramic Incense Burners — Handmade by Artisans in Manabí, Ecuador

Every incense burner in this collection is individually handcrafted from local clay by artisan ceramicists in the Province of Manabí, Ecuador. No molds, no mass production — each piece carries the slight variations in texture, tone, and finish that only come from a human hand shaping the clay. They are designed specifically for burning Palo Santo incense cones, although they work equally well with any natural resin or cone incense.

The process behind each burner follows a tradition passed down through generations in Manabí. Clay is selected and soaked for two to three days until it reaches the right consistency, then sifted, kneaded, and shaped by hand. After slow air-drying to prevent deformations, each piece is fired in a kiln at high temperature — producing a censer with the structural strength to withstand heat and daily use. How to Use a Ceramic Incense Burner for Palo Santo

  • Place the burner on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials.
  • Set a Palo Santo cone or any natural resin cone inside the hollow of the burner.
  • Light the tip of the cone and allow it to catch for 10–15 seconds, then gently blow out the flame.
  • The cone will smolder steadily for 20–30 minutes, releasing aromatic smoke. The ceramic body absorbs and distributes the heat safely.
  • Allow the burner to cool completely before handling or cleaning. Remove ash residue with a dry brush — avoid water on unglazed ceramic.

What Makes These Burners Different

Most incense burners sold online are factory-produced in bulk — uniform, interchangeable, and disconnected from any specific tradition. Ours are made by real people in a specific place, with clay sourced locally and techniques refined over generations. Because each piece is handmade, no two are identical. The slight imperfections in surface texture and color variation are not flaws — they are evidence of the human process behind each object.

These burners are fair trade certified and produced within EcuadorianHands' commitment to supporting artisan communities in Manabí. Purchasing one is a direct contribution to preserving this ceramic tradition.

Complete Your Ritual

These incense burners are designed to be used alongside our Palo Santo incense cones, made from pure bursera graveolens wood sourced from our Protected Natural Reserve in Manabí. Both products share the same origin — the same province, the same hands, the same commitment to ethical production.
