The Pava Semicalada is distinguished by its partially open, ventilated weave in the crown and its wide brim with a gentle, softly curved profile.
Unlike the Pava Llana, which has a dense weave and a completely flat brim, the Pava Semicalada combines traditional handwoven toquilla straw with decorative openwork sections that allow greater airflow through the crown. Its brim is also not perfectly flat: the edges have a subtle, elegant curve that creates a softer drape around the face.
The result is a lightweight, breathable Panama hat with a distinctive feminine silhouette.

Where is the Pava Semicalada made?
Each Pava Semicalada is handwoven by skilled artisans in Pile, near Montecristi, Ecuador, one of the world's most renowned centers of authentic Panama hat weaving. Each hat is then carefully shaped, blocked, and finished by hand.
Despite its name, an authentic Panama hat is traditionally made in Ecuador from handwoven toquilla straw.
What do the weave grades 13–14, 15–16, and 22–23 mean?
The available grades reflect differences in the fineness and density of the handwoven straw, as well as the amount of skilled labor involved.

Grade 13–14 — Fino: A refined, durable weave suitable for regular wear.

Grade 15–16 — Extra Fino: A finer, more tightly woven grade requiring greater precision and more labor.

All three grades are genuine handwoven Montecristi Panama hats. Higher grades generally represent a finer, denser weave and a greater degree of refinement.
