Before choosing your model, measure the circumference of your head. Use a sewing tape measure or a soft string and place it just above your ears and eyebrows. Leave a small space with your finger for comfort.

The Optimo represents one of the earliest Montecristi styles, distinguished by its characteristic central ridge running through the crown—a feature that emerged naturally from the traditional rolling technique perfected over centuries by weavers in Pile. This detail isn't decorative; it's functional. It's the reason the Optimo is the only Panama Hat style we genuinely recommend for travel compression without risk of structural damage.
Why the Ridge Matters
When weavers first rolled hats for transport, the ridge formed as a natural consequence of how the straw compressed and held shape. Over generations, this became intentional design. The ridge distributes pressure evenly across the crown, allowing the hat to compress and expand repeatedly without cracking or losing form. Elegance born from necessity.
Artisan Mastery in Every Weave
Each Optimo is handwoven in Pile using 100% toquilla straw, then blocked and finished by hand. Quality is determined by three factors: the fineness of the weave (measured in rows per inch), the precision of crown rows, and the expertise and time invested by the weaver. A Grade 13-14 hat requires weeks of labor. Grade 15-16 can take months. No two hats are identical—each carries the signature of its maker.
Built to Travel, Built to Last
Lightweight and breathable, the Optimo keeps you cool in heat while naturally blocking UVA/UVB rays. Its elegant proportions work equally at a golf course, on a beach, or in a boardroom. With proper care—handled always by the brim, never the crown—an Optimo can last decades, becoming softer and more beautiful with age.

Data sheet
My hand woven flat hat is absolutely beautiful, even better than I expected. There was a delay in shipping or delivery however. I contacted the seller and he was quick to respond and I was patient until my hat arrived. It was worth the wait.

the Optimo design looks great and the craftsmanship is clear. However, if you're planning on rolling it regularly for travel, keep in mind that Grade 13-14 straw is a bit too thick and rigid for easy rolling without risking creases. If you specifically want a hat that rolls up effortlessly, you’ll definitely need to order one of their higher grades with a finer weave. Still a very nice hat, just requires more care.
I needed something lightweight for coastal trips. The ridge down the middle makes it stand out from typical Fedora styles. Shipping took about a week to arrive, but the hat quality definitely makes up for the brief wait.
The straw weave is super fine and even. The hat looks very sophisticated with a linen suit or just a polo. It fits slightly snug out of the box, but after a couple of days of wear, it adjusted nicely to my head shape.
