Yoga posture of the week: Utkatasana or Chair Posture

4119 Views 13 Liked

Utkatasana is known as the famous chair pose, it is considered that by practicing this asana or posture can lose weight, strengthen your legs and raise the buttocks. Utkata means "intense", "powerful".

It focuses on muscle activation and joint protection, it is perfect both for beginners who start practicing Yoga and for those who have been with this discipline for a while and want to continue improving (extending the time we spend in this position).

  • To perform this position properly, you must follow the following steps:
  • We started in the position of "Tadasana". If you do not remember how to do it in the end I'll leave the link so you can learn to do it.
  • Take a deep breath and raise your arms, until they are fully straight and stretched (remember that the hands should be looking in, and aligned to the shoulders).
  • We begin to bend the knees while we expel the air. it prevents the knees from passing from the toes.
  • As we go flexing the knees, the body will lower, but with the back straight and arms stretched.
  • We stay like this for 30 seconds, breathe deeply and release the air slowly.
  • To get out of the posture we only stretch the knees, raise the body and lower the arms.

Benefits of the posture:

  • It helps burn abdominal fat, helping you lose weight.
  • It helps you tone your abdomen, pelvis and back.
  • Strengthens the ankles, tones the thighs and glutes and stylises the legs in a balanced way
  • Corrects your posture and helps strengthen shoulders.
  • It is ideal to correct flat feet.

Precautions:

  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Low pressure
